- Learner
1a:Set professional learning goals to explore and apply pedagogical approaches made possible by technology and reflect on their effectiveness.
1b: Pursue professional interests by creating and actively participating in local and global learning networks.
1c: Stay current with research that supports improved student learning outcomes, including findings from the learning sciences.
Example #1- Excel Skills Assessment
The excel skills assessment is an assessment that was given to us at the beginning and end of the semester. The purpose was for us to get a sense of what we knew at the end of the semester vs at the beginning. This goes with 1c because it is a way to show you are keeping up with current resources that can be used in the classroom. Throughout W200 we learned about a lot of resources that can be incorporated into the classroom, which explains why my score improved at the end of the semester.
Example #2- Professional Development Page
This page lists all of my completed badges and examples for each. This goes with 1a because it shows I am exploring different ways to incorporate technology into my future classroom. One of my badges was a resource evaluation badge, which shows i am reflecting on the resources effectiveness.
2. Leader
Educators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning. Educators:
2a: Shape, advance and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with technology by engaging with education stakeholders.
2b: Advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content and learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students.
2c: Model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning.
Example #1- PBL Lesson Plan
This PBL lesson plan encouraged students to be creative and come up with a solution that is unique. The lesson plan has a differentiation section, which talks about the ways in which students in my classroom can have a wide range of abilities. This goes with 2b, as not all classrooms or students will have access to the internet, which is something teachers should advocate for their students.
Example #2- Computational Thinking Lesson Plan
This computational thinking lesson plan focused on algorithms. The lesson plan also has a differentiation section, which goes with 2a as it is important for educators to incorporate technology into the classroom. Educators should have a plan with their students about how to use online educational tools.
3. Citizen
Educators inspire students to positively contribute to and responsibly participate in the digital world. Educators:
3a: Create experiences for learners to make positive, socially responsible contributions and exhibit empathetic behavior online that build relationships and community.
3b: Establish a learning culture that promotes curiosity and critical examination of online resources and fosters digital literacy and media fluency.
3c: Mentor students in safe, legal and ethical practices with digital tools and the protection of intellectual rights and property.
3d: Model and promote management of personal data and digital identity and protect student data privacy.
Example #1- Digital Citizenship Lesson Plan
This lesson plan focuses on cyberbullying. This is something all students should be knowledgeable about as it is an important part of todays society. This goes with 3c as this lesson plan focused on helping students understand how to stay safe online.
Example #2- Infographic
The infographic created for this lesson plan focuses on how to prevent cyberbullying. This goes with 3c as it shows students how to stay safe online and prevent cyberbullying with peers. This is a problem encountered by students every day so it is important they know about it.
4. Collaborator
Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems. Educators:
4a: Dedicate planning time to collaborate with colleagues to create authentic learning experiences that leverage technology.
4b: Collaborate and co-learn with students to discover and use new digital resources and diagnose and troubleshoot technology issues.
4c: Use collaborative tools to expand students' authentic, real-world learning experiences by engaging virtually with experts, teams and students, locally and globally.
4d: Demonstrate cultural competency when communicating with students, parents and colleagues and interact with them as co-collaborators in student learning.
Example #1- Twitter Chat
I participated in a twitter chat which talked about how to create the best elementary classroom, and what were the best practices for an elementary classroom. This goes with 4c, as it connected me with people around the world virtually, and helped me gain ideas from them. I learned real world things from this twitter chat which I can incorporate into my future classroom.
Example #2- Computational Thinking Lesson Plan
For this lesson plan, the main activity was a board game involving algorithms with a Bee Bot. This goes with 4b as the students worked together in order to code the Bee Bot. Some students already knew how to use it and some did not, therefore the students helped one another out. Collaboration in the classroom is important to help students come up with creative ideas.
5. Designer
Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability. Educators:
5a: Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.
5b:Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning.
5c: Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning.
Example #1- Production Badge
For this badge I created a story board video which retold the story of the three little pigs. This goes with 5a as it is using online technologies to design your own idea. It also incorporates learner differences as it is easy to use and would be a good educational tool to use in the classroom.
Example #2- Concept Map
The concept map in this example plans out a lesson for a particular standard. This tool goes with 5b as it a good way to plan out a lesson. The concept map can include activities as well as assessments, and can map out everything you need for your lesson. This tool can be used in the classroom for students to map out their own work and concepts.
6. Facilitator
Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student achievement of the ISTE Standards for Students. Educators:
6a: Foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings.
6b: Manage the use of technology and student learning strategies in digital platforms, virtual environments, hands-on makerspaces or in the field.
6c: Create learning opportunities that challenge students to use a design process and computational thinking to innovate and solve problems.
6d: Model and nurture creativity and creative expression to communicate ideas, knowledge or connections.
Example #1- Computational Thinking Lesson Plan
The computational thinking lesson plan requires students to do their own thinking and come up with their own questions. This lesson focused on algorithms, which goes with 6a. Students took ownership of their learning, while working with students, to find the value of a group of coins and program the Bee Bot by themselves.
Example #2- Piktochart
This piktochart example is from the digital citizenship lesson plan. This lesson plan focused on cyberbullying. The piktochart created states the ways in which you can prevent bullying. This tool goes with 6d as it is a model for what students can do, and encourages them to create their own piktochart to express their opinions and ideas.
7. Analyst
Educators understand and use data to drive their instruction and support students in achieving their learning goals. Educators:
7a: Provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and reflect on their learning using technology.
7b: Use technology to design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessments that accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback to students and inform instruction.
7c: Use assessment data to guide progress and communicate with students, parents and education stakeholders to build student self-direction.
Example #1- PBL Lesson Plan
The PBL lesson plan focuses on making a piktochart to share the students knowledge on a certain topic and come up with a solution. This goes with 7a as the students present this piktochart to the class with an overhead projector. This is using technology to demonstrate their understanding of a concept, which is a unique way of an assessment.
Example #2- Production Badge
The production badge is a story board about the three little pigs. This could be used an assessment in a lesson plan for students to demonstrate their knowledge of what they have learned throughout the lesson. This goes with 7b as it is using technology to design an assessment, which will accommodate learner needs as it is an easy to use website.
